About knots

Knots are used to attach, hold, construct,... They are functional. But they are also very decorative and give a beautiful texture to materials. I love to use different knots (chinese, celtic, fisherman, sailor...) in my jewelry design, specially with modern or high tech fabrics. Fabrics like rattail, tanara, teflon or goretex are uv and water resistant and perfect to make very long lasting jewelry, better than leather or silk. I use them in knots with natural gemstone beads and precious metal for a trendy and fashionable look. It's all about color and texture.

I've been fascinated by knots for several years now, and I made this giant habitat knot when questioning the time. I remember it took more than 15 m ( ) of fabrics to construct the habitat and I had to construct a structure in aluminium because it was so heavy. French philosopher Gilles Deleuze wrote "la matière-pli est la matiere-temps", I translate as "plaits are the texture of time". I love this idea that plaits and knots are the materialisation or visualisation of the time.
